By The Kover Co When you step onto a rug by The Kover Co., you are not just walking on hand-spun wool — you are stepping into the lives of over a hundred artisans, designers, dyers, spinners, and finishers. Every knot, every line, and every motif represents not just craftsmanship, but community.

We often describe our rugs as woven legacies — but few truly understand just how many human hands are needed to bring a single piece to life.

A living ecosystem of craft

In the remote weaving towns of India where The Kover Co. operates, rug making is not just a profession — it is a generational calling. It begins with the herders and spinners who prepare natural fibres like cashmere, alpaca, mohair, and New Zealand wool, all of which are sourced ethically and sustainably.

From there, the process unfolds through stages — designing, dyeing, weaving, trimming, binding, and washing — each carried out by skilled specialists, many of whom have been practicing their art for decades.

A single hand-knotted rug, especially a bespoke or custom size, can involve:

  • 2–3 dye masters

  • 1–2 CAD designers

  • 6–10 weavers on the loom

  • 2 finishers

  • 1 quality control supervisor

  • 1 packaging and logistics team

  • And up to 80+ indirect artisans and support roles

    craftsmanship meets livlihood

Through The Kover Co.'s initiatives and long-term partnerships, we ensure that artisans:

  • Receive above-standard wages

  • Work in safe, ventilated, modern looms

  • Have access to skill enhancement programs

  • Participate in a culture of dignity, not anonymity

Each rug provides direct income to at least 15 families, and indirect support to over 100 lives — making it a powerful driver of rural empowerment and craft preservation.

Sustainability is a human value

True sustainability means respecting not just materials, but the people behind them. That’s why The Kover Co. takes pride in using:

  • Eco-friendly, AZO-free dyes

  • Recyclable rug backings

  • Plastic-free packaging

  • Wool and yarns with low water usage

By placing the artisan at the center of our story, we not only preserve ancient craft — we redefine what luxury means in the modern world

why it matters to you?

When you choose a rug from The Kover Co., you’re not just choosing aesthetic perfection. You’re investing in a living chain of heritage — a piece that uplifts lives while adorning yours. Whether you’re a global interior designer or a private collector, your rug will hold more than threads — it will hold stories.
